HOMEMADE SIGNS
How to create professional looking, but inexpensive business signs.
Requirements:
Microsoft Word or a similiar text editor program on a PC
A color printer
A pair of scissors
A glue stick
A clear polyurethane (for waterproofing)
A block of plywood to use as your sign
A can of spraypaint to color the background of your sign
A tape measure
A pencil
Mounting brackets to hang your sign
The first thing you need to do is determine the wording for your sign and type it out on your computers word editor program.
I used Microsoft Word for Windows (tm), because it has a 'PRINT PREVIEW' feature
that gives you an idea on how everything will look prior to printing.
Select the font style and font color that you would like your letters to be.
Increase the font size to what you will require for your sign.
Print out your message and carefully cut out the letters from the paper.
The beer and McDonalds soda are optional, but make the time it takes to complete project appear to be much less.
You will want to mark the center of the board LIGHTLY in pencil using the tape measure,
you will need to keep an even number of letters on either side of this mark to center your message.
Also place some gridlines on the board to help align your letters.
Place the letters on the sign to get an idea of how you want the layout of the sign to look.
Using the glue stick, carefully rub glue onto the back of the entire letter and place on the board.
Erase all pencil marks on your sign. They are no longer required.
This is how it should look at this point, be sure not to have the edges of any letters sticking up, they could catch and tear easily.
Cover the entire board with a few coats of clear polyeurathane and place a couple of mounting brackets on the back
and your sign is now ready to hang outside!
Total cost -> Under $10 !!!
Total time -> Under 4 Hours !!!
