I happened to get my greedy little bones on a copy of their CD a few months
before it was released (a promo copy that was accidentally dropped on it's way off
the shipping truck... ya know...) And these guys were damn good. I was never
really one for surf rock, but The Ghastly Ones pull it off. When I first threw it in my player,
I guess I had picture something along the lines of the Ramones' "Rockaway Beach"
but with more distortion and darker lyrics. Oh well, I called it wrong...
Instead, I heard a voice shriek through my speakers "The Ghastly Ones invite
you to be horrified..." followed by a "Haunted Mansion-like" surf song titled
"The Ghastly Stomp".Most of the songs that came after were the same. I have a newfound respect
for surf after hearing this. They were one of the original releases on Rob
Zombie's project "Zombie-A-Go-Go Records". They've also done a song with Zombie on the "Halloween Hootenanny" compilation called "Halloween [She's So Mean]"
With "The Doctor" Dr. Lehos on guitar, Sir Go Go Ghostly
on the bass and Baron Shimmy Shivers pounding on the pots and pans, they're ready to surf
horror into the souls of their fans.
"IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT, OR WHENEVER THE MOOD IS RIGHT, THREE SWINGIN' UNDERTAKERS
WHO CALL THEMSELVES "THE GHASTLY ONES" THRILL AND CHILL THEIR WAY OUT OF THE CRYPT
AND INTO YOUR LOCAL GO-GO CLUB. VENTURING FORTH INTO THE REALM OF THE WEIRD
AND WAY OUT, THESE THREE GENTS FROM BEYOND FEVERISHLY POUND THEIR INSTRUMENTS
IN AN ATTEMPT TO SUMMON THE SPIRITS OF RECENTLY DECEASED GO-GO GIRLS. THIS DECK
CAPTURES ALL THAT AND MORE. LISTEN CLOSELY AND BE FOREWARNED...
A-HAUNTING WE WILL GO-GO."
