Submission Guidelines

Dark Corners is a biannual print magazine publishing pulp fiction in the horror genre.

Fiction: 500-3,000 words (firm).  Original stories only, no reprints. Be original—try to steer clear of the traditional zombies, werewolves, vampires, etc. Send suspenseful tales with a macabre tone that will really send chills down a reader’s spine.  I’m especially looking for stories with strong endings, powerful kicks that leave a reader really surprised, shocked, even appalled.  I strongly recommend ordering a copy of issue #1 (on sale now!) to see exactly what kind of fiction we’re publishing.  In other words, don’t submit with a blind eye.

Format: Dark Corners is accepting submissions as .doc or .rtf attachments via email only.  Do not paste a submission in the body of the email.  In the subject line, please type Submission: “Title of your story” to be sure that it is properly received.  If it’s not, it may be deleted.  Also, please be sure that your file is formatted correctly, and that your name and email address are listed before the story itself; I don’t save emails—I save the attached files.  Send all submissions to darkcorners321@aol.com. There will be specific reading periods when I will accept submissions.  Any subs received when Dark Corners is closed to submissions will be deleted unread.

When a tale is accepted, I’ll request one-time printing rights.  All rights revert to contributors upon publication.

Response: I’ll usually respond within one week, but please don’t query until after one month.

Payment:  ½¢/word, plus one contributor copy.

Artwork:  Dark Corners seeks to supply artwork for every tale.  If you are interested in doing artwork, please query with a sample of your work as an attached file or in the body of an email.

Well, that should do it.  I look forward to reading your stories.  Send ‘em along!
