Long before the film there was the written word. Long before we settled down in
front of video or now DVD players for our fright-fests, we would read tales of
terror by candlelight.
For most, this has been lost, however there are still those that prefer the pages
to celluloid or even both and why not?
This section then is for you. To help you to search through the rubbish and find
stories worth your time to read. If you're an avid reader of horror novels then
why not join 'Castle Dracula' as an official 'staff member' reviewing them.

- Beneath a Blood Red Moon -
- Shannon Drake -
- Kensington Publishing Corp. -
Shannon Drakes historical novels like 'Seize The Dawn' and 'Come The Morning'
are well written romance novels, but I believe her vampire series is unsurpassed.
Beginning with her first novel 'Beneath A Blood Red Moon', Drake explores new
territory, with this enticing dark world and characters she has created to arouse
our senses.
We are taken to the beautiful and mysterieous land of occult and voodoo where
she captures all the beauty and mystique of New Orleans.
This brings back fond memories of Rices 'Interview with a vampire' as does
the obsessive and arrogant behavior of the malevolent character you just love
to hate, 'Lestat' and who can forget 'Daniel' from Jemiah Jeffersons 'Voice Of
The Blood'.
Drakes malicious 'Aaron Carter' joins the ranks with his horrendous acts of
violence, leaving New Orleans gripped with fear.
The intense attraction between the two main characters 'Maggie' and 'Sean' is
captivating and the prolonged sensual teasing is satisfied at just the right
moments keeping you mesmerized throughout the book.
'Lucians' past and his physical description makes him the most alluring character
of all. His vampire magnatism keeps you longing for more.
There is more to come from this incredibly sensual being in the second novel
of the vampire series.
'Beneath A Blood Red Moon' leaves you wanting more and the story does continue
with 'When Darkness Falls' this book sends you spiraling into blood, passion
and creatures of darkness from the graveyards of Scotland to New Orleans, with
the seductive 'Lucian' and a new beauty for the beast 'Jade MacGregor', I found
this novel even more enticing than the first.
'Lucian' draws you into his soul and keeps you there every step of the way!
The murders, strange beings, and horrific acts of violence will keep you spellbound.
When we get to the third novel of this series 'Deep Midnight' there is a bit of
a change, all the characters are new with just a glimpse of the past characters
from the other first two books of the series.
This story takes you to the streets of Venice back to New Orleans, with masquerade
balls and evil crimes with a mysterious savior.
I am looking forward to reading the next novel of the series 'Realm of the Shadow'
coming in September 2002.
The author definitely keeps you coming back for more, and I highly recommend
Shannon Drakes 'Vampire' series.
I hope she keeps them coming!
