Long before the film there was the written word. Long before we settled down in
front of video or now DVD players for our fright-fests, we would read tales of
terror by candlelight.
For most, this has been lost, however there are still those that prefer the pages
to celluloid or even both and why not?
This section then is for you. To help you to search through the rubbish and find
stories worth your time to read. If you're an avid reader of horror novels then
why not join 'Castle Dracula' as an official 'staff member' reviewing them.

- Hungry Eyes -
- Barry Hoffman -

In 'Hungry Eyes', Hoffmans' first published novel, you are taken step by step
through the mind of a serial killer, from her abusive childhood to adulthood.
How the horrific abuse of this child "Renee" causes her to seek vengeance for
the cruelty done to her. Renee is a street smart highly manipulative young girl.
Living with an abusive mother and witnessing the death of her father, she is
then kidnapped by a neighbor who's crimes far surpasses that of her family.
When she is finally discovered, the police and a reporter are put on the case.
Renee confides in the reporter Deidre Caffrey a strong female character who shows
compassion for Renee yet knows she has to do her job.
A short time in a foster home then running to the streets she is befriended by
'Shara', an older girl who takes her in and teaches her how to survive in the
night life, until her own death.
By taking Sharas' identity an older, stronger Renee seeks vengeance.
A murder takes place causing Deidre Caffrey to become very suspicious due to an
intentional clue left behind by the murderer.
Another brutal killing and all the victims have a criminal past, all the victims
have abused children and have gotten away with it...until now!
The media is calling her a vigillante, the police are frustrated with no leads
and "Shara" makes plans for the next victim.
Shara pulls you in, you can't help cheering for her, yet you become so appalled
by the way she kills her victims.
Hoffman so clearly conveys the thoughts of this girl, you understand why she thinks
and feels the way she does.
This is the beginning of a series and I can't wait to read "Judas Eyes" and "Eyes
of Prey"!
