Long before the film there was the written word. Long before we settled down in
front of video or now DVD players for our fright-fests, we would read tales of
terror by candlelight.
For most, this has been lost, however there are still those that prefer the pages
to celluloid or even both and why not?
This section then is for you. To help you to search through the rubbish and find
stories worth your time to read. If you're an avid reader of horror novels then
why not join 'Castle Dracula' as an official 'staff member' reviewing them.

'Justin Freeman' and her parents move into a new neighbourhood where everything seems
too good to be true. The people are all polite and helpful; the neighbourhood itself is
clean and respectable; but the owner, a doctor, is more than just any physician looking
after the health of his patients. He is actually an intelligent, manipulative sadist who
wishes to first test his experiments on the oblivious citizens of 'Elysian Fields.'
The beginning delivers you right into the action and remains interesting enough throughout,
but not evenly. Some supreme suspense is built in key parts and the ending was a nice wrap-up.
The characters are not focused on evenly; 'Justine' is the main heroine who comes across
as a normal, likable teenager adapting to change. One irritation was that no one believed
the girl but this isn't the novel's fault; it's a personal pet peeve of mine. All people are
pretty simple overall, which appeals to certain kinds of readers, while others may feel
disappointed.
The boy kept in the house (won't offer spoilers) is probably the creepiest part of the story.
He was an undeniably sad creature and when he was shown in the story, it always threw
me off track trying to figure out just WHAT his deal was.
There are some major faults with this work. For one thing at times the pace was a bit too
slow and some of it was pretty repetitious. I already knew everything that was going down
and wanted to slap the characters that just couldn’t seem to "get with it." It left me slightly
frustrated, and that is something I hate.
The plot is pretty predictable and it's just a bit too far fetched. I would recommend this
more to the young adult crowd that adult horror fans.
