Long before the film there was the written word. Long before we settled down in
front of video or now DVD players for our fright-fests, we would read tales of
terror by candlelight.
For most, this has been lost, however there are still those that prefer the pages
to celluloid or even both and why not?
This section then is for you. To help you to search through the rubbish and find
stories worth your time to read. If you're an avid reader of horror novels then
why not join 'Castle Dracula' as an official 'staff member' reviewing them.

- Possessions -
- James A. Moore -
"Possessions" is about a young man who, after losing his mother from a tragic 'accident,'
finds out more than he bargained for when bizarre events begin to unfold. Soon he, his
sister 'Brittany,' and his two friends 'Katie' and 'Jerry' are taken with him into a seemingly
endless spiral of madness and horror.
James A. Moore has delivered to us something that is unique, something that doesn’t use
the typical cheap plot ploys or anything illogical. It’s obvious the story was well outlined
and thought out before the grave was dug, and one things for sure: You WON’T be figuring
out the original source of terror until Moore wants you to: At the end!
A great plus on the novel’s side was the realistic as all hell characters. 'Chris Corin'
was the main guy, and he was a person I really loved seeing through. His intelligence is
fast paced, his thoughts humorous but real, and his personality lovable. His sister’s character
wore on my nerves at times but perhaps because I became defensive of 'Chris' since I dug
him so much. I would calm by telling myself it was understandable with all she’d been through.
'Katie' was a bit pushy but otherwise a good addition.
'Jerry' was my second favorite of the gang and kept me amazed. He’s the type of friend
we all want to have, a great buddy, wonderful sense of humor, and really keeps adding more
and more.
The pace is fast and a lot happens. Although don’t be confused; plenty is sketched out so
you know what’s going on too. Which brings to me another thing: Moore’s writing style. The
man was on board with the 'HWA' for three years and it’s obvious he has talent: to be able
to make a book have this much action without feeling rushed is no easy feat. His style is
addictive as well. With gripping suspense, enthralling events, sympathetic characters, an
admirable writing style and almost endless flow of sheer horror (while being fun) - "Possessions"
is not a snack for a starving horror fan to miss!
