- Limited Edition 12" 'Ash' From 'Army Of Darkness' Figure -
Sideshow Toys have released two versions of 'Ash' from the cult favourite film
series, 'The Evil Dead.' Or to be more precise, from the third film, 'Army Of
Darkness.' There is this 'normal' version of 'Ash' or there is 'Evil Ash.' This
review is for the 'normal Ash.' For those that don't know the story (is there
anybody?), here's a brief run down of the story. 'Ash,' an 'S-Mart' Supermarket
employee along with some friends decide to take a break in a secluded log cabin
in the woods. There, in the basement, they find an old tape player and an ancient
book entitled 'Necronomicon Et Mortis' or more simply 'The Book Of The Dead.'
After playing the tape and reading from the book they unwittingly raise the 'Evil
Dead,' or the 'Deadites' as they are better known. After they possess and kill
his friends, he thinks its over but becomes possessed himself. For the second
film he must fight not only the 'Deadites' once again but the evil within himself.
After his own hand tries to kill him, he is removes it with the help of a chainsaw,
with which he then replaces his hand with. He manages to defeat the 'Deadites'
a second time by sending them back through history with the aid of the 'Book
Of The Dead.' Unfortunately, the price to pay is he is transported with them.
Here is where we find him in the medievil 14th century, having to fight the
'Deadites' yet again, armed with only his chainsaw, attached to his hand, which
is later swapped by the local Blacksmith for a metal hand and his shotgun, of
which he refers to as his 'Boomstick.' This is the incarnation of 'Ash' that
Sideshow Toys have decided to portray as the aforementioned 12" figure. What
a fantastic job they have done too. Dressed in the brown pants, boots, blue
shirt, blue cape and straps for his equipment. He is exactly as fans picture
him from the film. Sideshow Toys have captured every single detail from his
primitive robotic right hand right down to including his wristwatch. Of course
he comes included with his favourite two weapons, his 'Boomstick' and his Chainsaw.
Add to that a stand for the figure to be displayed on with his name and the
films name upon it. It all comes complete in a gatefold box with the films poster
used to decorate it. If you're a fan of the series and a collector of figures,
then this is one to own, along with it's counterpart 'Evil Ash.'
Reviewed By Dracula.
My sincerest thanks to Sideshow Collectables for kindly donating the above figure.
