Welcome to one of the main features of 'Castle Dracula,' the movie reviews section.
The reviews placed here are from all around the world, from the USA to the UK Japan
and everything inbetween. The formats reviewed are video and DVD. I have included the
origin of the film reviewed so you can check your player for compatibility. You may
also notice that there are some DVD-R reviews. These are not 'bootlegs' or 'copies'
but official screeners that I have been sent containing an as yet unreleased film to
review. All the reviews here have been reviewed either by myself or my current movie
reviewers. If you're an avid watcher of horror movies then why not join 'Castle Dracula'
as an official 'staff member' reviewing them. To do so, just click on the 'Join My Staff'
link in the menu to the left for details of this and other vacancies.
New reviews are normally placed here once a week, check my front page for under 'Castle

- Blade - UK DVD -
When I read comics as a child, I was never satisfied with 'Batman,' not unless it was
the much darker and realistic "Dark Knight" series. I wanted to read something nastier,
darker, more horror orientated. 'Morbius The Living Vampire' was good. 'Dracula Lives'
was even better. But my favourite of all was 'Blade.' The story of a man who was also
half vampire. Yet was also a "vampire hunter" and hated them with a passion. Seen as
a saviour to some and a traitor to others, mainly the vampiric kind.
When I heard that there was to be a film of the series, I was over the moon. When I
heard it was to be Wesley Snipes, my heart dropped. I though choosing him for the
lead role was a big mistake. Now after viewing the film and his portrayal of 'Blade,'
I see it was I who made the big mistake. I cannot now imagine 'Blade' being played
by anybody else. Snipes is that good.
The story sticks close to the comics and storms along at a fast pace. We learn how
'Blade' became to be, how he and his close friend and 'compadre' 'Whistler' happened
upon each other and why they joined forces to destroy the vampiric kind. The only
martial arts choreography is absolutely stunning. In fact the only thing thing that
I didn't like was the "techno" soundtrack, yet I will not deny it fits the film
perfectly.
The picture and sound are outstanding. Even the extra's don't disappoint though the
US DVD is slightly better. First, there's the standard theatrical trailer, then some
deleted scenes, cast and crew interviews and information, special effects documentary,
designing Blade documentary, behind the scenes, the original ending that was eventually
changed and an audio commentary from Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, David Goyer
(screenwriter), Peter Frankfurt (producer) and Kurt Petricelli (production designer).
This commentary is not even mentioned on the box!
So basically, all in all, an excellent film matched with some excellant extra's.
