The reviews placed here are from all around the world, from the USA to the UK Japan
and everything inbetween. The formats reviewed are video and DVD. I have included the
origin of the film reviewed so you can check your player for compatibility. You may
also notice that there are some DVD-R reviews. These are not 'bootlegs' or 'copies'
but official screeners that I have been sent containing an as yet unreleased film to 
review. All the reviews here have been reviewed either by myself or my current movie

- Ebola Syndrome - US DVD - 

Of all the films that I have seen, 'Ebola Syndrome' must come under the category of being
up there with the nastiest. Of all the CAT III films, this definately deserves it's rating.
It is most definately not for the squeamish or easily offended, in fact, this will sort out
the true hard core horror fans from those that claim to be.
The film begins with 'Kai San,' one of the most unpleasant individuals to ever grace the 
silver screen, in bed with his boss' wife. However they are caught by his boss, 'Wong,' who
has come home early. Outraged at his employee's and his wife's deceit, 'Wong' beats 'Kai'
senseless and then makes his wife urinate upon 'Kai's' face. After that, 'Wong' decides 
'Kai's' final punishment should be castration by scissors. 'Kai' begs his boss to let him
do this himself, 'Wong' foolishly agrees. As soon as 'Kai' is handed the scissors, he 
slaughters both 'Wong' and his wife. This has all been witnessed by 'Wong's' daughter, who
when 'Kai' notices, has gasoline poured all over her and almost set on fire. Luckily, she 
escapes to live another day.
Now we jump ahead ten years to 1996 and 'Kai' has taken refuge in South Africa working in a
small Chinese restaurant. He is berated constantly by the husband and wife team that own the 
restaurant. 'Wong' gets his revenge by spitting in their customers drinks and in one scene 
that will forever make you forever think twice about going to a fast food restaurant, he uses
a slab of meat as a 'masturbatory aid' before replacing it in the freezer. 
When the local butcher tries to cheat the restaurants owner over the price of meat, he decides
to goto a local Zulu tribe to buy some meat at a 'discounted price.' Taking 'Kai' with him on
his journey, this is where things go from crazy to just plain insane.
The problem is, neither of the duo realise that the tribe has been over-run with the Ebola Virus.
On the way home, while 'Kai' has a 'toilet break' behind a bush, he finds one of the tribe's 
young women laying on the floor, semi conciouss. Being the scum he is, 'Kai' seizes the chance
to rape the woman, not realizing she is dying from the virus.
As a cruel twist of fate though, it seems 'Kai' is one in ten million that can carry the virus
without it killing him. However, he can spread it through his his spit, semen, blood, saliva, 
and sweat. On his return he slips into fever and his boss's wife reluctantly nurses him back
to health. When they realize what his symptoms are though, they plan to kill him before the 
virus can be spread. Unfortunately, 'Kai' learns of their plan and first kills his boss then
brutally rapes and kills his wife. To dispose of their bodies he dismembers them, cooks and 
serves them to customers as "Africa Burgers." Seeing himself as a 'harbringer of doom,' 'Kai'
decides to exact revenge a world that he believes has wronged him by ways of by sneezing and 
spitting on people, feeding patrons his "Africa Buns," and having sex with the women that will
let him and brutally raping those that refuse.
Amongst all this madness, the now grown up daughter of 'Wong' has never given up looking for her
parents murderer. Whenever she is near him, she vomits because she can smell the stench of blood
and death upon him. Truthfully, this sub-plot is pointless and exists only for a way for the Hong
Kong police to finally find 'Kai.'
As bad as the subject matter is, as brutal as the rape scenes are and as vile as the gore is, I 
can't help but enjoy watching this film. There is somehow an unexplainable sense of fun to the
proceedings. It's probably just as well as this helps you ignore the many plot holes that are 
throughout the film . 
In 'Kai,' I doubt you will ever see a more reprehensible character. For somebody who is carrying
potentially the worst disease in the world, you cannot feel any pity whatsoever for him. As I 
have said, this is not for the squeamish, there's graphic scenes of torture, rape, masturbation
(albeit with a pork chop), cannibalism, dismemberment, golden showers, and that's the first half
hour!
The quality of the transfer quite excellent with some minor print damage and a few speckles here 
and there. 
The stereo sound is quite good as well with no distortion.
The subtitles are easily readable in either English or Dutch. 
The only extra's are a trailer, bio of Director Herman Yau and a slideshow.
This is not the kind of film though that you are buying for the extra's.
