- Ginger Snaps 2:Unleashed - US DVD -
Tagline:
"It only dies if you do."
Synopsis:
'Brigitte' ('Ginger's' sister from "Ginger Snaps") is trying to fight her change
with drugs ('Monkshood' commonly known as 'Wolfsbane'). She sees hallucinations
of her sister, 'Ginger,' who criticizes her every move. A male werewolf is trying
get her to mate. After one attack, she wakes up in drug rehab center where they
think she's an addict. Another young resident, 'Ghost,' a monster nut, befriends
and helps her. There's a surprising twist.
Story/plot:
Simple but effective story. It starts out slow for two-thirds but it builds
'Brigitte's' character and she shows her acting skills.
Atmosphere:
The setting's better than the first; the Canadian woods in the winter. Good music.
Some gory scenes.
Cast/characters:
Emily Perkins reprises her role as Ginger's sister, 'Brigitte.' Emily Perkins
isn't the best looking but she has an air of strength in her character that I
enjoyed and found attractive.
Tatiana Maslany plays 'Ghost,' a fellow rehad resident who befriends 'Brigitte.'
'Ghost' is a monster nut who likes the morbid, which 'Brigitte' finds annoying
but reluctantly joins forces.
Eric Johnson plays 'Tyler,' a perverted orderly who preys on the young female
addicts' addictions.
Cinematography:
Very clear with a darker look to it.
FX, sound, etc:
The FX are good and not over done. There's several gory scenes throughout but
picks up near the end. The werewolf is great but there's no complete on-screen
metamorphosis. Sound is great; clear voices, good soundtrack.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, a simple but effective sequel. Emily Perkins shows her great acting
skills as she's the main`actress and carries the movie predominantly on her own.
Creepy setting, plenty of gore. Recommended for all horror fans!
